The CoCo-80 is the first handheld device that is a fully integrated vibration data collector, dynamic signal analyzer, and a long-waveform data recorder. The Dynamic Signal Analysis (DSA) functions are designed for the analysis of a wide range of systems including mechanical, acoustic, electrical, geophysical, hydraulic, and any other application within the 40kHz frequency range. The Vibration Data Collector (VDC) functions are designed for the evaluation and monitoring of rotating machinery. It provides a convenient way to collect the vibration data using either route-based collection or onsite measurement and analysis in the field.

The hardware of CoCo can be configured with 2, 4, 8, or 16 input channels. When running in the VDC mode, 1 to 4 vibration channels can be enabled. The first channel of CoCo can also be configured as a tachometer input to measure the rotating speed of a rotor or reciprocating machine while acquiring data on the other channels.

The CoCo provides two different user interfaces for the Dynamic Signal Analyzer and Vibration Data Collector functions. In each mode, the user interface is taylored for the greatest functionality and ease of use. The VDC interface simplifies data colleciton by providing a pre-set route that guides the operator in the measurements. The DSA mode provides the user with the greatest flexibility in the configuration to suit their analysis needs.

The companion desktop software, called EDM (Engineering Data Management), works on Windows systems (XP, Vista, and Windows 7) and provides data post processing, reporting, file management, archival, analysis, and trending functions. It is also used to create and edit the data collection routes.

The CoCo connects to the computer with a USB or Ethernet connection. The route database in EDM is synchronized with the CoCo whenever it is connected.  Recorded data is uploaded to EDM and changes in the route configuration are downloaded to the CoCo

The Vibration Data Collector mode has both route data collection and onsite measurement functions. The onsite measurement function data to be collected outside of a pre-configured route. Onsite measurements also provides specialized functions such as rotor balancing and coast-up run-down analysis.

The CoCo is unique in its ability to function as both a DSA and VDC device.  Previously, DSA products did not work well in VDC markets, mainly because they were too big in size, required too much power, and did not have the ruggedness and portability. Conversely, traditional VDC products did not work well in the DSA market due to their lack of analysis functions, configurability, and accuracy. With the CoCo, regular vibration data collection can be done with VDC mode, but if the application requires advanced real-time signal analysis functions such as long waveform recording, octave analysis, or digital filtering, the user can switch to the DSA mode. The dual mode design simplifies the VDC user interface.
