    General

    1. 1. Do I need a PC to operate the CoCo-80?

The CoCo-80 is a completely standalone instrument. However, manipulating or post processing data and report generation are completed using the PC.
    2. 2. Can I replace the main battery?

Yes. The battery is easily replaced by opening the cover on the back. Time and date information will not be lost.
    3. 3. Can I transfer the data files to a USB stick or SD memory card?

Data files can be copied to SD memory cards but not to USB memory sticks. Currently, the CoCo-80 supports up to 32 GB SD cards. The user can then use the EDM software to read the data files from the SD card. An SD card reader is included with each CoCo-80.
    4. 4. How long will the CoCo run on batteries?

About 10 hours under typical use.
    5. 5. How do I update the CoCo-80 software?

Updating the CoCo-80 is done by connecting it to an internet connection. Once connected, press the update function button and the system will automatically detect any new software components on the server and provide instructions for updating the instrument.
    6. 6. What Operating Systems will run the PC based software (EDM)?

The EDM software will run both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Office XP or higher is required in order to generate reports.
    7. 7. Can I upgrade the number of channels from 4 to 8 after purchase?

Yes, but the unit must be returned to the factor for the upgrade.
    8. 8. Where is the CoCo-80 made?

All Crystal Instruments products are manufactured in San Jose, California, USA. CI has sales and support centers all over the world.
    9. 9. How rugged is the CoCo-80?

The CoCo-80 has no moving parts and is designed to be used in harsh environments. Using the IP65 rated enclosure adds additional protection.

    CoCo-80

    1. 1. Does the USB connection need a driver?

Yes. You must manually install the USB device driver. The driver can be found on the CD or in each units support site.
    2. 2. Does the Ethernet connection need a driver?

No special device driver is needed for Ethernet connection. The user only needs to make sure the CoCo is set to obtain an IP address via DHCP and it will connect with the PC automatically.
    3. 3. Does the CoCo-80 have a dedicated Tachometer channel?

Channel 1 can be configured as tachometer.
    4. 4. I’ve lost my original installation CD/Software, how do I get these replaced?

Each Crystal Instruments product comes with a support website which hosts the most up to date versions of the Software. To log in, click on the support tab above and enter your units Serial Number and Password. This password was send to you when the unit first shipped.
    5. 5. How do I calibrate the system?

All CoCo’s come with software that allows the end user to calibrate the system themselves. All that is required is a NIST Traceable 5.5 digit multimeter with that is able to measure DC and True RMS to an accuracy of 0.25%. The AC bandwidth for the voltmeter should be higher than 5 kHz.

    Display

    1. 1. How many cursors can I enable?

Two vertical cursors can be enabled.
    2. 2. Does the CoCo-80 have a touch screen?

The CoCo is designed to be used in clean and dirty environments. With this in mind, a touch screen was not included in order to make navigation easier while operating the instrument with dirty hands, or wearing gloves.

    Sensors

    1. 1. What sensors can I use for acoustic and vibration measurements?

Most CoCo-80 customers use IEPE type sensors, but the CoCo-80 can interface with just about any sensor so long as the sensor/amplifier outputs is proportional to voltage.
    2. 2. Does the CoCo-80 support charge accelerometers?

Not directly. But, using inline charge converters, the CoCo is able to interface with charge accelerometers.
    3. 3. Can I use the CoCo-80 with a Sound Intensity Probe?

Not right now. This is in the early stages of development.
    4. 4. Can I use the CoCo-80 with Proximity Probes?

Yes. Since most proximity probes have a voltage range of ±20 V, we offer an extended voltage range CoCo-80 which will interface nicely with non-contact probes (Part Number CoCo-P06).
    5. 5. Will the CoCo-80 support 4-20 mA Transmitters?

No. But, using an accelerometer with the CoCo-80 will give the same information as the 4 20 mA Transmitter.
    6. 6. Can I use the CoCo-80 with a Current Clamp?

Yes, but care must used when selecting an appropriate current clamp. Please contact CI for additional information.
